Inspiring the Youth of Tomorrow to Explore Innovative Careers in Maritime

As the school season ends, GMT would like to highlight a local corporate social responsibility initiative: the Junior Achievement of South Florida Marine Industry Storefront, Sea the World, which was first introduced back in 2019 by a select group of founding members.

Sea the World is composed of nine walls representing engine room specialists, yachting professionals, shipyard trade workers and other areas like marina management, boat sales, boat building and maritime travel to name a few.

We’re happy to share some photos of the storefront that showcases what we have accomplished this year with our other JA Sea the World Partners in cultivating a space that exposed 22,000 students, just this year, to the marine industry.

Through our collective efforts, and the monies donated, we have created a platform that enables these students to explore the marine industry, encouraging them to unlock their full potential in an industry they may have not even considered a possibility.

Tim Davey, Managing Director of GMT and one of the Sea the World Founding Members is “elated to see the positive impressions we are creating in the minds of tomorrow’s workforce.”

This past school year, Junior Achievement created a pre-apprenticeship program for 12^th graders for both the maritime and construction industries. So far, nearly 70% of the students in the program are interested in going into the maritime direction. This is an exciting new program and is continually being developed.

Supporting the Maritime Industry through Travel
