Qatar Airways Launch an Exclusive Mariner Lounge Inside DOH

It has recently been recognized by many the vital role shipping plays in support of the World economy and how critical seamless crew changes are to customer operations.

During these challenging times, both Global Marine Travel (GMT) and Qatar Airways (QR) are proud to have reliably supported the Maritime Industry with crew changes, repatriation movements, charter flights and more.

In further support of the seafaring community, Qatar Airways have just launched the very first MARINER LOUNGE at the Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, Qatar which will be a place of world-class service and hospitality to ensure traveling seafarers a comfortable and memorable journey.

The lounge became fully operational as of 12:00 on 18 November 2020 and is exclusively available to “Marine and Offshore” travelers provided they can produce either their CDC/Seaman book or Letter of Eligibility and must have a QR flight ticket for access to the lounge.

Below are some FAQs put forth by Qatar Airways in regard to the accessibility, amenities and operations of the lounge:

WHAT IS THE ‘MARINER LOUNGE’?

MARINER LOUNGE is a dedicated lounge at Hamad International Airport for seafarers and offshore workers to relax in transit at Qatar Airways’ hub in Doha, whether they are going back to work at sea or a rig, or are on their way back home after being out at sea or on a rig.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO USE THE MARINER LOUNGE?

All Seafarers and Offshore workers who have a Qatar Airways ticket, holding an inbound and/or onward Qatar Airways’ boarding pass, and provide a valid identification document evidencing their capacity of seafarer or offshore worker can receive complimentary access to enjoy the facilities of MARINER LOUNGE.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE ACCEPTED AS VALID IDENTIFICATION AS A SEAFARER OR OFFSHORE WORKER?

Seafarers or offshore worker passengers in addition to presenting an inbound and/or onward Qatar Airways’ boarding pass will require to present at least one of the below documents as valid identification.

  1. Seaman’s Book or Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) is a seafarer’s identity document issued by their country and certifies that the person holding is a seaman OR
  2. On-sign / Off-sign letters from the seafarer’s or Letters of Guarantee from offshore worker’s employer or agent.

CAN MARINE PASSENGERS ON ALL FLIGHTS USE THE MARINER LOUNGE?

Eligible seafarers or offshore workers should be connecting to or from a Qatar Airways scheduled flight, special flight or charter flight and be in possession of a Qatar Airways ticket & boarding pass.

WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES AVAILABLE AT THE MARINER LOUNGE?

Seafarers and Offshore worker passengers traveling on Qatar Airways, can retreat to the exclusive lounge to relax and enjoy refreshments while waiting for their onward flight. Crew members can indulge in an international selection of food offerings including fresh deli-style food, a selection of delicious wraps, sandwiches and juices, and at their personal discretion, choose from a selection of beer & wine. Additional amenities include: unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi, shower facilities, a television area, reading materials and Business Centre.

IS THERE A TIME LIMIT FOR USAGE OF THE MARINER LOUNGE?

No, eligible seafarers and offshore workers can benefit from the lounge facilities free of charge for the entire duration of their transit in Doha.

WHERE IS THE LOUNGE LOCATED?

MARINER LOUNGE is centrally located on the second level Duty Free Plaza South of Hamad International Airport, within a short distance to the gates and other facilities.
